Actually, you tend to get included in the 'white' category when it comes to fangirls/movie stars. I think maybe it's a question of East Asia being more industrially developed than South Asia, so a bigger player in the world economic field for a longer period of time? I'm not entirely sure why, but anime and manga definitely seem to be responsible in part for the sudden acknowledgment that hey, people live up in Asia somewhere!
