So. Suicide.

Yesterday, a girl was found dead in her room at my uni.

No details given except that foul play wasn't suspected meaning we don't have a crazed murderer running around campus.

[livejournal.com profile] witchwillow, [livejournal.com profile] orangutan, [livejournal.com profile] nekokilala, [livejournal.com profile] _gutterqueen, [livejournal.com profile] koala_motchi, [livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm and [livejournal.com profile] vs_malik all very kindly kept me distracted until about 8AMish, though, so that was good. And I called Kathy, and Numa, and my parents to let them know that it wasn't me that killed herself.

The popular theory right now is suicide because two years ago, roughly around yesterday, someone else had killed herself. And between me and Anna (roommate) we can name fifteen people that we know personally that dropped out of Wellesley due to stress-related breakdowns/mental disorders.

...I'm still a little in shock, I think, but I've got yummy chocolates to eat, and that helps, as did talking to Kathy. I hadn't talked to her for ages, and I'm glad she wasn't too upset I woke her up at 2AM.

And so that this post is actually revelant to people that aren't personally connected to me/don't go to my uni, I'll add in some standard stuff below.

Sucide's not an answer but a question.

Favorite saying ever to do with suicide. I just wish I knew who said it or where I'd read it originally.

If you're feeling suicidal, read this first.

Graph of suicide stats. Only recent upto 2002, but still interesting. Please note that Sri Lanka (possibly because of the civil war?) has more suicides than India despite being much, much smaller.

And on a not completely connected note, Goth more likely to practice self-harm. No shit, Sherlock, ya think?

*did a pretty piss-poor job considering the circumstances*
