The apostrophe quivered, precariously sticking out just a little like a flag from the slippery downward curve of an e. It balanced there, uncertain of what would come next -- would it be an r? Two lls? The apostrophe desperately hoped it wouldn't be the last. They always ganged up on him when they came in pairs. He still hadn't recovered from the last time. The r was good. The r was comforting and nowhere near as slutty as its next-door neighbour, the s.
