Link Of The Day.

Going over some of my old dj entries, I noticed that I'd run a link of the day section for about a month, where I'd just make an entry with a link and a short explanation of why that link should be clicked. So, I'm trying that again -- no limits on what the links are to, could be games, fic, boys kissing, girls kissing, politics, anyway. I'll try to mix it up.

Link of the Day: Halloween costume trends, 2006.

Princess in the lead, and Pirate's in second place. Know what caught my attention? Ninja's only in 13th place. Poor ninjas. More people dress up as pumpkins than ninjas!

Also, Batman's in place 15. After SpongeBob Squarepants. But who's surprised? It makes perfect sense that kids would rather dress up as a giant yellow sponge in pants than a guy who wears tights and his underwear on the outside -- I mean, really, which costume do you think is more appropriate for cold October nights?

To think... my sister chose pirate and I was tempted to do ninja.... hehheh.

xDD *is dead* Spongebob more... wow. What about Superman? Since, y'know, his movie just came out... Wow. Not even ON the list. *le gasp*

Poor, poor ninjas...

*snuggles* I hope this means you slept before or after this >.>

Haha. :P You guys are such typical Americans.

And although the CVS near my uni sells Superman costumes, apparently they're not actually popular. Weird, that.

What is this sleep you speak of?

*dies* Hey! xD Pirates are cool! *poutage* So are ninja :P *snickers*

Yeah. There's tons of Superman stuff around stores here, but it looks like they're not going anywhere. Not that I mind, I'm not a huge Superman fan myself.

Something that you should be doing right now! *sprinkles sleepyness on you*

Maybe so, but they're getting so cliche!

And awww. Smallville is making me a fan of Superman as a teen though I'm still not sold on him by the comics.

Noooo!

[identity profile] xinda.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
xDD MAYBE, but that's mostly b/c whenever a movie comes out about "something" then everyone tends to dress up as it for Halloween :P Obviously.

xD Yeah, I was never a Superman fan. The older movies weren't bad, but if I didn't watch them I didn't feel bad about missing them. I prefer Batman.

TSKS. You should be sleeping at least 10 hours missy! Or 8.

Generic ninja has only two lead-ins: the fading popularity of Power Rangers [albeit not exactly ninja, but the martial arts influence is there] and the slight incline of Naruto fandom due to Cartoon Network exposure. But kids can buy Power Ranger uniforms while Naruto costumes are non-exsistant for those outside the cosplay society.
Meanwhile, pirates have Johnny Depp literally at the helm. And with PotC2 shattering box office records, did ninjas even have a chance?

Oddly enough, a magazine article I'd read earlier today listed pirates as the top costume to be expected this year with princess [of any flavor] down at #6. Just below celeb lookalikes.

Ninjas are underloved, considering that they're a lot easier to do than pirates. Well, generic ninjas, that is. I wouldn't like to try to cosplay anyone from Naruto (I'll leave that to the pros like you ^_~), and Power Rangers is definitely pretty passe.

*dies* The idea of dressing up on Halloween to look like a celeb is something that's never occured to me, I'll admit.

Here's the list from the magazine:
1.Pirates
2.Classic standards [witches, devil, vampires]
3.Sexy varients [garter-baring nurse or french maid]
4.Hollywood royalty [Brangelina, TomKat, Paris Hilton]
5.Superheros
6.Fairytale Royalty
7.Period pieces [Ceopatra, cowboy, southern belle]
8.Animals [barring black cat, spider, or bat since that falls under #2]
9.Politicians [George W, Clinton]
10.Quirky [condiment dispensers or food]

Oooh, yeah, I think that this was only counting kids costumes. Which would account for the total lack of anything sexy on the list.

Thanks for typing out the list!

Yeah, it made a difference that this came from a woman's magazine.

I gave up on people on Halloween 2006. South Park decided to release an episode of Steve Irwin (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/27/irwin.southpark/index.html?eref=aol) about a week after he died. The world got to know he died before his wife did.
Anyway, the reason I relate this to Halloween is because there was some bastard out there who decided Steve would look good as a costume. There were little kids running around in Steve Irwin costumes with a Sting Ray hanging out of their chests.

Halloween died for me this year. LONG LIVE GUY FAWKS DAY (even with all the firefighter callouts, its really fun to run around asking "a penny for a guy." Only old people know what you're on about XD).
