Image macro protest/take a stand.

I am seriously considering if I have the guts to do this.

On one hand, I'd want to stick it behind a cut because it's definitely NSFW and I don't like having images out of cuts anyway, but on the other hand, dude, that's practically asking to be banned. But the way LJ's going, it's debatable if I really want to stay (but why does it have to be a Snape/Harry pic? I hate that pairing!). And I'm going to feel like a coward if I don't do it.

At any rate, I am way tempted to stick it up on [livejournal.com profile] fuck_diplomacy at the very least.

*debates!*

Everyone, chip in your two cents, please. I welcome your opinions.

So why was LJ so great again? I'm starting to wonder why I joined ^^.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It lets you know what I'm doing. :P In this case, I'm raging against LJ. XD

[identity profile] daemonsadvocate.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to let you know, I support you :). T's just weird in this case, but generally figured if it's to do with free speech, well, I know where you're coming from. I doubt they're under that much direct pressure from the government to enforce it; the willingness to accept what they're doing... well, let's just say I tried to read into it and got too angry to comment straight *restraint is a technique*.

My opinions are with-held, let's just say it's not quite international law, and the whole thing...I feel really sad when I see the "just bold" font, not the "once were warriors" crossed out links. The flag of even being a member removed... loyal or not due to some local law...
...wow I'd love to punch the policy maker sitting in a server room (anyone want to mention the word TOOL?!?!?)...

Love you, yeah; got the feeling you were raging against what you were using to communicate. Like bitching about MS over MSN (in my case ^^).

<3 you, missing you like crazy.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
*pets* LJ is going to be adding 'report abuse' buttons to posts. I cannot believe what a bad idea that is -- considering how grudge-wanky people are, there's going to be a ton of, "Oh, hey, that person once left a bad comment on a fic I wrote, I WILL REPORT HER!" and then wham, someone gets banned. Without any warning.

LJ is operating under US law, it's already stated clearly. Which rather sucks. And the bold font is just bizarre. Were the little head symbol gifs such a load on their servers that they decided that going bold would be easier? I have no idea what the hell they were doing.

And yes, that's true. XD I still have a paid account until December, though, so I'm going to keep using this until it runs out but after that, I'm seriously thinking about where to switch to. If I keep up with deadjournal, you can't keep up with me, but on the other hand, journalfen only allows paid users to make free accounts, or free accounts to be created during randomly chosen times. And insanejournal has ads.

I think that journalfen might be my top choice, if I can get a paid account for my damienraptore account over there, since then I can make free accounts for my flist (including you, obviously :P) so that we won't end up divided all over the Internet.

♥ you, miss you too, gorgeous.

[identity profile] daemonsadvocate.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd take a stand if I wasn't simply using LJ for basically the above. I love you and this is a community which you're part of, so hell, I can't hate it. I love you. <3

[identity profile] daemonsadvocate.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Blah. Something so explicit is just pornography. Porn communities wanting animated fun, why stop at Harry Potter? I've seen some pretty scary things surfing about, but that picture looks pretty degrading.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* Yeah, it's porn, it was posted in the community [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies. But the point is, LJ didn't say that sort of material wasn't allowed. It said no material with children. Harry's very obviously not a kid in that image.

Now their criteria is that it has no artistic merit. Who is LJ to decide what has artistic merit? That particular pairing isn't my style, and I don't like that picture all that much, but it's beautifully drawn and colored. At the very least, LJ shouldn't just delete every account she has with no warning based on one picture. It's absolutely ridiculous.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay, doll. I'm not expecting anyone else to do this on my flist. And I heart you plenty too you, and I'm glad that we've got this way to keep in touch.

*still squees at that icon every time*

[identity profile] homgsekrit.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My opinion? Quite frankly?

I don't think someone a coward if they DON'T do it, because if I find that on my f-list out of a cut I'll by annoyed at some people for being so inconsiderate. That image DISTURBS me, because that's not stuff I like looking at. Simple fact. (Or maybe I should just go off ignoring lj for another week or so. That usually fixes everything. XD)

Cutting the image is a politeness and kindness to those of that don't want to look at it. I think your friends should be more important than showing lj what for. And honestly, LJ is stuck in a nasty law-situation, and I dislike how they handle things, but by law they ARE bound. As I discussed with Xmas last time, they can't do much about it. The only reason they could last time was because half the people they banned were in connection with FICTIONAL things. This time they KNOW it's fictional. This is a whole other kettle of fish. I don't think it's right -- I don't think they should handle it by banning people. Deleting the image/entry, then explaining to the user why and not to post it again makes more sense. They should trust us more to be responsible about our own things -- and if we can't be, THEN ban us. I'll tell them that when I HAVE TIME, though. I'm on the fence of my feelings for a lot of things just yet, but that's because I need to leave, and don't have time to sort through them just yet.

Of course...who knows what they'll start banning next, considering. I'll make more sense of myself when I get back.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
XD Yeah, I'm not a fan of that particular picture either but I've got to admit, it would make a striking protest point.

It's just that I browse lj at work and I definitely wouldn't want to have that showing on my screen, so lj-cut really would be the way to go. I freaked out a bit when I found it popping up in comments on the news post. *used a link here, becuse that's her usual method of dealing with off-color pictures*

By law, they're meant to get rid of child porn. I don't really think that drawings of people qualify, but more than that, LJ already agreed that this one isn't child porn. Instead, they're taking it down for having no redeeming artistic merit, which is just bloody stupid. Who the hell gave LJ to decide what's worthwhile art and what isn't? Yes, I'm not a fan of the pairing. So what? It's nicely drawn and colored and if they're going to spotlight a comm devoted to post-it doodles, then I'm wondering what the hell art standards they're using.

*sighs and pets you* If they're banning people with no warning and deleting all their accounts, then I'm pretty sure that I don't want to stay here. I don't think that I really have anything on my journal that they could kick me for but quite simply, I don't like the idea of being in a place where everything of mine could just disappear, irretrievably, forever. I have a lot of fic and convos on lj that I'd hate to lose and feeling insecure about if I get to keep them isn't going to be a good situation in the least.

[identity profile] homgsekrit.livejournal.com 2007-08-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I can't argue that, certainly. Deal is, I couldn't even begin to use it for protest, because my trigger finger hits the back button before I can save it or get a link. XD

lj-cut, most definitely. I insist. Otherwise, I, of course, support your protest all the way, though I'd be sad if you got banned and nothing got accomplished from it. That would kind of piss me off, actually. If they're going to ban you, I want you to make a huge ass impression in the process of it.

Actually.... (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sec_18_00001466---A000-.html) And to quote: "(c) Nonrequired Element of Offense.— It is not a required element of any offense under this section that the minor depicted actually exist." Granted, legal speak likes to be vague and not so clear, but clearly it says it CAN be fictional, and can be a drawing, computer image, which I assume includes CGI, which covers this image.

Regardless if I UNDERSTAND lj's reasoning, I don't like how they HANDLE these things. That aside -- if they already agreed it's not child porn, then....wtf? I think artistic merit is up to artists and viewers to ascertain, quite personally.

As a side note, I just want to say, DAMN, what do they mean no artistic merit? SHE IS INCREDIBLE. x___X I may not like the image in any way at all, but I wouldn't dare deny it's very well done, very good drawing, very good style, and probably very beautiful to the fans of the pairing. Sheesh. (I just had to compliment her work at least once.)

I can't blame you there, as I already said I dislike how they are dealing with this. Warnings would have been appreciated. Didn't anyone bother to suggest that to them LAST TIME? I'd hope someone bothered to. But also, all of my friends are here, so leaving for me doesn't feel like a plausible option YET. I can't deny I'm seriously considering it, though. I mean...I do still have a dj, and I did just make a gj, and I have far more means of communication than just lj, but.... Some people I can only run into via here, so we'll see.

I definitely want to say something to lj and see if they bother to handle this like last time, but bloody hell, this time they'd better do some improving on the system of handling these things. I don't think I'd be willing to stick it out after a third instance of this, though.

As for the giving them my two cents, though...I'm inarticulate at the best of times, and this clearly doesn't rank in "best of times."

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
XDDD Oops. Yeah, definite problem there.

I don't really want to get banned until I've got a backup of my journal, but I can't do that until I'm at uni. After that, I don't give a damn as long as I have everything saved somewhere.

HAH. But yeah, artistic merit DEFINITELY exists in that picture. Not my pairing but the coloring is gorgeous, let alone the linework.

And plenty of people suggested warnings. Honestly, the b est article that I've seen on it is here (http://www.darksiderainbow.net/dr-weekend-edition-080507-livejournal-arouses-the-ire-of-its-usersagain/). It does a fantastic job of explaining what the issue is.

*going to send in a support ticket, definitely, regardless of how articulate or inarticulate she feels at the moment*

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
dude Harry looks over eighteen. :/

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW.

But that's not the argument that they're using anymore. According to them, it has no artistic value (http://news.livejournal.com/102095.html?thread=54713039#t54713039).

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. ARE THEY BLIND?!

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
This has to do with mundane laws. Yes, it's encroaching on fandom's freedom, but I'd rather LJ try to work this out than have to deal with politicians doing it for them. Fandom tends to forget that mundane laws affect them and the internet sites that host fandom stuff.

I can't look at the picture, because I'm at work-- but Ponderosa is KNOWN for doing chan (and has at least one bestiality pic that I know of), even if that particular picture isn't.

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And also, my new icon.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That picture is Snape/Harry and they both look like they're not minors, as far as I know. If they want to keep pornography off their servers, that's fine. It's their site and they have the right to do so.

However, they could have just said that as a response to Strikethrough '07. The apologies, the promises that unexpected deletions and attempts to sneak them by wouldn't happen again? That's not the same as saying "This is what you can't do. Stick to these rules".

Hell, even FF.Net has clear rules about what's acceptable. If we know the rules, we can follow them. If we don't know the rules, then we're left on edge, wondering if we'll be next.

And for crying out loud, if they want to delete her for her portfolio en masse, you think that they'd have the sense to at least one of the bestiality or chan pictures to do so. @_@

Saw your new icon over FW, btw! XD And your regret at no Photoshop. Want me to make you a cleaner version?

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my girl was all twitchy cause she draws porn. I can see what people are up in arms about, but I'm going to stick with my theory that someone reported those two artists to stir up trouble. Because nothing else really makes much sense.

Then again, I didn't much care last time, so I figure it makes sense for apathy to remain my primary response until and unless it turns out this is just the first volley. And even then I probably won't care much since most of my friendslist seems to be staying put here, despite getting journals elsewhere.

XD Nah, I made the icon at work. I can make myself a better version now that I'm home, if I can find the inspiration.

[identity profile] xinda.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's a coward to not do it. Mostly for the fact that there are people completely unrelated to this that will search [livejournal.com profile] news and come across it - and for me, that's unfair to/for them. I don't agree with wrongful censorship, but I do think it's unfair to post something like that publically without a cut and all - etc.

Though, I DO highly think that the actual people who DID wrongfully suspend these journals deserve a spamming of that image.

My opinion = I wouldn't suggest it.

Especially since I think many comments there are going ignored by those that you'd WANT to see it and want to be affected by it.

If you want to post it, link it rather than post the image itself. My two-three-four cents? XD

[identity profile] xinda.livejournal.com 2007-08-03 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Also, I think, if you want to contribute, maybe make icons that stand for what's going on and share them?

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I'd want a cut because otherwise, it would keep popping up on my journal while I'm at work and man, THAT would not look professional.

As for the abuse button thing? Talk about a great way to enable grudge wank (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/content_flag.bml). *shakes head* TURN COATS AND SPIES, AHOY. They're supposedly going to make it a button that can be added to all the posts to 'report them'. Oy.

[identity profile] homgsekrit.livejournal.com 2007-08-05 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh.... Could I get a DEFINITION for Illegal Content and Illegal Activity PLEASE, LJ? x__X

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't like it, it's Illegal Content and Illegal Activity!

DUH. That's how they do it, anyway. Artistic merit, YEAH RIGHT.

[identity profile] homgsekrit.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Just...UGH. They've made me more inarticulate than USUAL.

[identity profile] xinda.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh.... Could I get a DEFINITION for Illegal Content and Illegal Activity PLEASE, LJ? x__X

AGREED. And not just a vague one, but a clear-as-day (or as clear as a partially cloudy one...)

[identity profile] xinda.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* XDD no, it wouldn't. Dude, I still wince that I tried to keep up with the comments and I had to keep checking to make sure no one walked by >.> Even though I'm clearly over 18, but still! >.>;;

AND I SAW THAT. See, that's the beginning of something TERRIBLE. *sighs heavily* Way to give people reason to abuse that option and use it as means to manipulate others or grudge against people ~_~;; Yeah. TROUBLE, I SAY.
