A recap by a girl who watched the Avatar Finale and nothing else of the series!
Let me explain, before all the Avatar fans on my flist wring my neck. You guys (especially ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
a_white_rain) are always talking about how I should watch it. I saw it playing on Nick Toons, and decided to try it out. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the finale.
Under the cut is my recap of it, during which I jump to the conclusion that Sokka makes out with his sister, Azula's sister is Katara and elements in the Avatar worlds are seriously weird. Trust me, it makes sense in context! And if you keep in mind that all I know of Avatar is what I read from your entries and see on Fandom Wank.
Toph, Katara and Sokka are on a flying ship. Which they liberate. And then proceed to dump the crew into the ocean, possibly to drown. They're the good guys, right? Toph snarks about being blind, and then they commandeer the shi for some reason. Azula's talking Katara. Who's magically in the palace instead of in the airship. What? OH. Apparently it's her mother.
...Who isn't actually in the room at all. Dead mother? Azula to a hallucination of her mother kind of kills me. Katara's hot in the red outfit. I have no idea what's going o with the army and the war and Aang randomly attacking a spaceship or flying ship or whatever. But hey, it looks cool as well! Especially the dramatic stripping with additional burning away of clothing. It's a flashback to the third X-Men movie, though.
On the spaceship, chars yelling that Aang is "back" confuses me. Did he go somewhere? How can the title char of a show just disappear?
Is it just me or is fire dude wasting power showing off when he should be saving it for battle?
Wait. Why is Katara's hair suddenly short? Why is Toph being called "Captain Boomerang"? Is Toph able to see? Or can she just sense heat? Or the ground heating up?
WHOA! OKAY. REMIND ME, are Sokka and Katara sister/brother? Because that kiss went straight into Luke/Leia territory at first glance.
A giant floating furry thing is enough to stop a ceremony--
WAIT. IS THAT KATARA? If that's Katara with Zuko, then who is with Sokka? The chick with the mask except now sans mask? OH, that kiss scene is so much less squicky now! And Katara's also less hot. Boo.
It's really hard to feel a fight between a tiny kid and a shirtless old man is a fair one. Especially when old guy has a Lionel Luthor from Smallville hairstyle. Hey, look, a Heero Yuy fall! ...Into lava? Which Aang survived?
Actually, I'm confused. If she's a Fire Bender, why is Azula's energy blue? MAN! ZUKO'S BREAKDANCING! Wait. Why is she capable of using lightning if she's a firebender? And why didn't Zuko just throw up a sideways wall to block it instead of jumping in front of it? And WHY is Zatara not canon? I might have a thing for people who jump in front of other people to protect them, but dude, I can totally see where the Zuko/Katara shippers are coming from based off THIS ONE EPISODE.
Toph and Sokka have some plan to do with bending the ship. Sokka loses his space sword and is very sad about it. Fire guard people just stare as Toph starts to cry about being about to get dropped into the ocean. Then Suki (sp?) shows up. Who is definitely NOT Katara, oh thank the gods for the Luke/Leia vibes being gone!
Aang is nearly killed by impalement and goes all glowing-eyed. Which apparently makes him badass. He then has TENTABLES OF FIRE that he lashes towards fire dude, whom I'm presuming is Fire Lord Oz-something. He's now showing off elemental control by hovering in a buble of air, with rings of water, fire and earth.
Meanwhile, old guy randomly shows up and is attacked by tanks. Which he attacks right back by dancing to summon up rocks. And then piles the tanks on top of each other. Another old guy sets fire to a banner and smiles vindictively about it.
Zuko turns out to be alive. Azula cackles crazily while Katara runs around. Azula says something TOTALLY INCOMPREHENSIBLE to me, and I talk fast myself. Azula can apparently flying on her blue energy thing. Which is
"There you are, filthy peasant!" Is it just me, or did that sound like a GERMAN ACCENT? Random German accent kills me. Uh. They appear to be frozen. Was that ice? But then how is Katara still moving? The physics of this escapes me.
Whoa. Tender moment between Katara and Zuko. Yeah. Definitely see what fans are yelling about when they claim shipteases.
And jeez, Azula! If she can scream lightning out of her mouth, why doesn't she just direct at them? I love her screaming breakdown, though, complete with tears of rage.
More fighting between Aang and Oz goes on. I find myself bored. Aang snakes a tendril of water up the guy's ankle, traps him spread-eagled onto a pillar of earth, and ... is made wet. And has little pebbles rained on him, possibly. Aang seems to have lost his glowing-eyed desire for vengeance. He traps Oz again, and touches him on the forehead. Then he starts hallucinating. Or remembering something. And they bleed light out of their eyes and mouth. Then get covered by light, and Aang starts to get covered in the red light, then turns blue again, and there's a blinding ray of light up to the sky. Is blue good or bad now? I'm confused! I thought blue was bad because Azula used it!
Aang has apaprently taken away Oz's firebending skills. Which renders him harmless since clearly, you can't kill people by stabbing them, hitting them hard with a rock, pushing them off a cliff, etc. Aang then causes a flood to put fires. But makes the flood withdraw again so don't worry, the land got better!
Sokka fangirls Aang and does a Movies in Fifteen Minutes version of his fight with Oz. Suki wants to know if Ozai is dead, Ozai argues that, and Suki, Toph and Sokka taunt Ozai a bit. Suki apparently can't make up good nicknames, but it's not like theirs were that great either.
Mei showed up! And blushes and kisses Zuko. Awww. He's kind of adorable when he looks scared of being poked in the chest. Katara and Sokka get a happy reunion with their father. Some random character called Ty Lee gets to be a warrior chick in makeup. Aang and Zuko have a We-Will-Remake-The-World moment. Zuko gives the credit to Aang. Toph is apparently reuinited with her little brother? Zuko declares the war over, and gives a dramatic speech. Complete with Vash's trademark LOVE AND PEACE.
He then gets a really rather pathetic-looking ponytail holder for a crown. And goes to visit a jail. Probably Azula?
Nope! Father! Or whatever. And he wants to know where his mother is.
Everyone complains about Sokka's art skills. Aang goes out to be alone on the roof, Katara follows him, and the two hug. I'm guessing that's as shipping as you can get with a twelve-year-old -- OMG WRONG THEY JUST KISSED okay that's kind of ew how old is Katara please tell me that Aang grew older as the series progressed.

BUT! I nearly died at thinking that Sokka/Katara was canon. I mean, seriously, wtf, in a MAINSTREAM KID'S SHOW? I know it's anime-inspired, but even anime itself might hesitate to have that pop up in the finale.
It's the amusement of misunderstandings like that which make watching random eps meaningful. That, and I almost always see things out of order. That's how I got into Gundam Wing, YGO, and pretty much anything else you'd care to name! XD

Zuko is Ryuuji. Azula is dark!Lex (adopted by Sinjin). Aang is a Buddhist Batman (with other batmen as previous reincarnations). The crazy guy messing with the tanks is an earth bending old man Jason, w/o revenge. Zuko's uncle Iroh is Bruce who lost Drake. Suki is Cassandra. Toph IS blind and she's also kind of like a baby girl Bruce (no lie). Ty Lee & Mai are dual parts of Shiva. Ty Lee's the amused portion.
And the rock poking Anng's scar was as if battle forced Ryuuji's scar to open up.
Ok that's all I can manage right now. Still sad. And also coughed so much tonight I couldn't sleep and I think I may need to throw up.

And OMG DO IT, that would be hilarious! You shouldn't be sad! You should think of it as a sign of progress that I actually watched two eps of Avatar, and liked it. Even if I watched the very last two and therefore got highly confused. But! If you did recap Boston Legal or some other show with a linear plotline, and only did the last ep, I'd totally crack up.
...Though come to think of it, pretty much all the shows I like are self-contained episodes, one problem per hour. House, Cold Case, Psych, Boston Legal, etc. I think the only one that I can't just watch out of order for the sake of it is Dexter. Summing up a season finale of Dexter, without having seen anything else, would definitely be a head trip. Summing up the season finale of Galactik Football would be "kids play football, and some political stuff happens".
Still. Stop being sad! Be amused! Fickle watched Avatar! Fickle diligently tried to make sense of Avatar!
...Also, believe it or not, this is my TV viewing patterns for pretty much everything. I watch stuff out of order, based on what's on, since over in Europe, it's REALLY difficult to get stuff viewed in a linear order for some reason. Which is probably why I like shows like Cold Case, come to think of it -- it doesn't matter I'm forced to watch them out of order, they all make sense anyway.
