12 Reasons why gay marriage shouldn't be legalized. Taken from only the gods know where.

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid becasue they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire counrty. That's why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never suceed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or longer lifespans.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "seperate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Seperate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as seperate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

It gets posted around a lot, but I figure that the more people read it, the better.

*ponder* I've seen most of this around, and the only thing I'm a teensy bit iffy about is the last point. Although I believe marriage for gays should be legal, I also don't think that a church should have to perform marriage rights for a homosexual couple if it goes against that church's doctrine.

Of course, there are plenty of churches out there who have no problem with same-sex marriages. *nods to self*

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2005-02-15 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto on the church issue, but if marriage is 'only a word' and it doesn't matter what it's called, then why should it matter if if it's called marriage for homosexuals as well?

And yeah, Buddhism for example doesn't have a problem with it. XD

X_____X A guy in my history class actually brought this up sort of as a joke, except with a goat. My history teacher is very pro-gay rights, so he was not amused. X3;;;

Honestly, though, some of the people in my History class... X____X I should post on the debate we had about women's draft sometime. I was frankly shocked at the opinions expressed by some of the girls. *shakes head* Are we a progressive or a regressive society?! >_

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2005-02-15 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
With the repressive, conservative right in charge? Regressive, definitely. *nods*

And if you post that, I'll post my views on the idiot that said "some girls dress like they're asking to be raped." *bribes with exchange of thoughts*

X3 Hehe, that'll work. I've wanted to rant on it for the longest time, anyway.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2005-02-15 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*smirks* And now you have an excuse! How convenient for you.
