Oh JOY.

Disabled kids kept in cages.

Just when you think the world can't get any worse...

That's disgusting.

...polite, well-behaved, well-dressed and appear to have been well-fed, neighbors and authorities said Tuesday.

As I read that, one of my thoughts were: I certainly hope no one uses THAT in defense for what was done.

The Gravelles have said a psychiatrist recommended they make the children sleep in the cages...

And if that's true, the psychiatrist should be fired and fined. Among other things.

Alright. Couple of points. No, I'm not agreeing with keeping said children in cages, however...

1) There is no signs of abuse or neglect.
2) Said children were seen and heard quite frequently playing outside and happy.
3) They were well fed and well dressed.
4) Houses that have more than one child in diapers CAN smell like urine. It happens this way sometimes. Hell, even one child can make a house smell like urine.
5) If these people can provide proof that a psychiatrist told them to keep these children apart, you're looking at a major case against this shrink.

It will be interesting to keep tabs on this story as they find out more. From what they found and what the neighbors have said, these children were well taken care of..but..there can always be an underlying something.

Like I said, I don't agree with it, however... there can be more to this story than meets the eye. Don't start plotting these people's maiming just yet, sweetie ;)

Yeah, I kind of get the feeling that - personally - the situation may not be quite as extreme as it first seems. It looks as though the parents were advised to keep their children in 'cages', and it appears as though the kids might have actually needed some sort system where they were locked up to keep them and other kids in the house safe. I have no idea how big 3 1/2 foot is, so I could be envisioning something totally different to what others may be. It would have most certainly have been better to have used more sophisticated systems (which are sure to also be very expensive), and without knowing what the cage was like at all, size wise (closer to being an enclosed bed? Barely enough room to crawl into? Seriously, I don't understand feet at all ^^) it seems a strange solution, but one recommended by a supposed professional.

It looks to be a potentially very interesting case.
