10 Weird Things About Me + Logic Puzzle!

First of all, here's a little logic puzzle for everyone out there. Took me less than five minutes to solve it, so I bet most of you can do it as well. All comments are screened by default, and I'll unscreen those that don't have the answer. *shall offer a drabble or icon to anyone that gets it right though she's still writing out Xmas fics* No cheating and trying to Google it!

Once A, B & C went to a restaurant. After having tea and light refreshment they asked for bill, the amount of bill was $30 They decided to pay the bill amount on equal share. Everybody took out $10 from their pocket and paid the bill.

They were yet sitting and gossiping in restaurant, Suddenly the waiter realized that the amount of their bill was $25 not $30

He took $5 from counter and decided to return them. Then he thought they are 3 how will they share $5? So he has decided to keep $2 to him and return only $3 to them. He came to their table and returned them $3 with apology. Everybody took $1 and put in their pockets.

Now my question is first time everyone paid $10 later they get $ 1 refunded.

So everybody paid $9
$9 * 3 = $27

The waiter put $2 in his pocket.
$27 + $2 = $29

So, where is the remaining $1?

Rules: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog post of their own - 10 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

10 Weird Things About Me

1. I love complicated/weird color names. Red, blue, green -- they sound boring to me. I want crimson, scarlet, carmine. Or cornflower blue, prussian blue, or marine blue. Or mineral green, emerald green, or olive green. I especially love the two-word colors, like cornflower blue, which is always my default font color on MSN. I even have some of the colors listed in my interests in my profile.

2. I hate jam, marmalade and pretty much any kind of spread except peanut butter, butter and Nutella. And even then, it has to be smooth peanut butter, not chunky.

3. I sleep with two hot water bottles because I'd freeze to death otherwise.

4. I haven't used my landline at college for over two years; all my calls take place over my cellphone.

5. I have crayons in my pencil case and use them to draw during classes. I actually bought them for a friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm, but then I found a better set that I'll be sending off to him whenever I finally get around to posting the Xmas cards/packages I owe everyone. @_@

6. The first bit of fanfiction I ever read was when I was 12 or so. It was Xena/Gabrielle and I was so embarrassed by the kiss and very tasteful hints at sex scenes that I deleted them from the fic, partly because I was scared of what my father would do if he read them. I keep meaning to find that fic again because it was over 1K of pages in 12 Times New Roman font, and it was possibly the best thing I've ever read in the fanfic world.

7. I have only one pair of sneakers and three pairs of boots. I wear my sneakers during the wintertime anyway, even when there's ice on the path (the trick is to walk on the grass instead, the crunchy snow won't wet your sneakers because it's too cold to melt) and my parents despair and insist that I buy myself new ones. I refuse, because I like wearing my sneakers until they wear through.

8. Same thing with socks. I have no problem wearing socks with holes in them, though it drives my parents crazy. One time, I actually stitched up the holes in my socks to make a point about them.

9. I carry Vaseline Lip Therapy with me nearly all the time. I love that it's flavorless and it feels really soft and makes your lips subtly shiny without being glossy. Smearing a layer on is weirdly soothing.

10. Eating can exhaust me. Just the effort involved in chewing a slice of pizza and swallowing it is tiring. Same for a cheeseburger. My mouth just hurts afterwards, and I wonder if I expend more energy on eating than I gain from it.

My tags for this meme:

[livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm, [livejournal.com profile] nevita, [livejournal.com profile] ego_chan, [livejournal.com profile] xinda, [livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain, and [livejournal.com profile] nyrehtak.

Does anyone know why it's always six people that get tagged? I'd think that ten would be more appropriate in this case.

*Raises hand* That one is easy. ...And yes, I'm intruding. Excuse me *cough*

You pick a pill from a tablet, two from the second, three from the third and so on. You put them all on the scale - the weight difference will change according to the 'position' of the stray tablet (as in, how many stray pills you added to the scale).

Intruding? Not at all, left that one open. Yeah, you got it right *claps*, guess I'd give a prize but I can't think of one. *raised eyebrow* Care to suggest something?

Hmm. Sudden blockage of ideas ^^;

I dunno - if you feel up for it, perhaps an icon? (Everything out of movies is great.) Else, just leave it at that ;) Riddles are worth solving for themselves.

Go for it then :). Pick a movie and I'll try my best XD.

Uhhh. The Matrix, The Prestige, Pirates of the Caribbean, Kill Bill, Star Wars, LotR... Take your pick ;)

...the weight difference will change...

Doesn't this contradict "you can only read the weight on the scales once"?

[identity profile] caeliat.livejournal.com 2007-02-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No. This is possible if you know the weight of a normal pill and the weight of a 'abnormal' pill. Other than that, I have no idea. Do you have a different way of solving this?

(Anonymous) 2007-02-12 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I understand your solution now. But the original question didn't specify that you knew any of the weights in advance. Googling suggests that if you don't, the number of weighings depends on the number of items, with the traditional puzzle being 3 weighings to find the odd one out of 12.

[identity profile] caeliat.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that one, but this one refers specifically one weighing. Thus, I see no solution other than mine.
