10 Weird Things About Me + Logic Puzzle!

First of all, here's a little logic puzzle for everyone out there. Took me less than five minutes to solve it, so I bet most of you can do it as well. All comments are screened by default, and I'll unscreen those that don't have the answer. *shall offer a drabble or icon to anyone that gets it right though she's still writing out Xmas fics* No cheating and trying to Google it!

Once A, B & C went to a restaurant. After having tea and light refreshment they asked for bill, the amount of bill was $30 They decided to pay the bill amount on equal share. Everybody took out $10 from their pocket and paid the bill.

They were yet sitting and gossiping in restaurant, Suddenly the waiter realized that the amount of their bill was $25 not $30

He took $5 from counter and decided to return them. Then he thought they are 3 how will they share $5? So he has decided to keep $2 to him and return only $3 to them. He came to their table and returned them $3 with apology. Everybody took $1 and put in their pockets.

Now my question is first time everyone paid $10 later they get $ 1 refunded.

So everybody paid $9
$9 * 3 = $27

The waiter put $2 in his pocket.
$27 + $2 = $29

So, where is the remaining $1?

Rules: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog post of their own - 10 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

10 Weird Things About Me

1. I love complicated/weird color names. Red, blue, green -- they sound boring to me. I want crimson, scarlet, carmine. Or cornflower blue, prussian blue, or marine blue. Or mineral green, emerald green, or olive green. I especially love the two-word colors, like cornflower blue, which is always my default font color on MSN. I even have some of the colors listed in my interests in my profile.

2. I hate jam, marmalade and pretty much any kind of spread except peanut butter, butter and Nutella. And even then, it has to be smooth peanut butter, not chunky.

3. I sleep with two hot water bottles because I'd freeze to death otherwise.

4. I haven't used my landline at college for over two years; all my calls take place over my cellphone.

5. I have crayons in my pencil case and use them to draw during classes. I actually bought them for a friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm, but then I found a better set that I'll be sending off to him whenever I finally get around to posting the Xmas cards/packages I owe everyone. @_@

6. The first bit of fanfiction I ever read was when I was 12 or so. It was Xena/Gabrielle and I was so embarrassed by the kiss and very tasteful hints at sex scenes that I deleted them from the fic, partly because I was scared of what my father would do if he read them. I keep meaning to find that fic again because it was over 1K of pages in 12 Times New Roman font, and it was possibly the best thing I've ever read in the fanfic world.

7. I have only one pair of sneakers and three pairs of boots. I wear my sneakers during the wintertime anyway, even when there's ice on the path (the trick is to walk on the grass instead, the crunchy snow won't wet your sneakers because it's too cold to melt) and my parents despair and insist that I buy myself new ones. I refuse, because I like wearing my sneakers until they wear through.

8. Same thing with socks. I have no problem wearing socks with holes in them, though it drives my parents crazy. One time, I actually stitched up the holes in my socks to make a point about them.

9. I carry Vaseline Lip Therapy with me nearly all the time. I love that it's flavorless and it feels really soft and makes your lips subtly shiny without being glossy. Smearing a layer on is weirdly soothing.

10. Eating can exhaust me. Just the effort involved in chewing a slice of pizza and swallowing it is tiring. Same for a cheeseburger. My mouth just hurts afterwards, and I wonder if I expend more energy on eating than I gain from it.

My tags for this meme:

[livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm, [livejournal.com profile] nevita, [livejournal.com profile] ego_chan, [livejournal.com profile] xinda, [livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain, and [livejournal.com profile] nyrehtak.

Does anyone know why it's always six people that get tagged? I'd think that ten would be more appropriate in this case.

Okay, I think I have this right, but maybe not. The problem is, subtraction and division aren't commutative, so the puzzle doesn't work if you try to do it backwards. It's not 9 * 3 + 2, it's 25 + 3 + 2. Or 28 + 2.

Will leave another comment about the meme, just in case I was not completely incorrect on the puzzle.

Right! XD You definitely got it right. Any requests for the drabble or icon you get as a prize?

[identity profile] perivates.livejournal.com 2007-02-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It should be $27 - $2 = $25 to get the bill price, not $27 + $2 = $29, since the waiter took some of the money. :)

Alas, I've been tagged for that before! XD

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yes. XD You did it the opposite way I did, but it's the right answer! Want a drabble or icon as a prize?

And yet, you made up the bit about marmalade ruling the world!!

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-05 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I did! But that's because I hate and secretly fear marmalade. XD It used to be a bit of a running joke with my friends that marmalade would take over the world and in pantries all over the world, the pots were plotting revolution! And they mindcontrolled humans to be produced in mass quantities, so humans are part of the marmalade reproductive system. ^_~

[identity profile] mirrored-echo.livejournal.com 2007-02-05 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
$27 exchanged hands at the end of the evening, not $30. The waiter kept $2 out of those $27 and the restaurant kept $25. There's no reason to add the amount the waiter stole and the amount the customers paid. Do I get a drabble/icon? :)

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I am amused by how many different ways there are to solve this and yup, you get a drabble if you like! XD Just give me a topic and/or fandom, though I can do original drabbles too.

[identity profile] harmonybunny114.livejournal.com 2007-02-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
In the till?

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*dies* Nope. But that answer amuses me anyway. XDD

[identity profile] yukirien.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if this is right, but the system works. Their original bill is $30 which split 3 ways is $10, but their later bill of $25 means that each owes $8.33, meaning they've each overpaid by about $1.67. Each receive $1 back which means they've overpaid by $0.67. $0.67x3 = $2 which is what the waiter took. That's as much as I can figure out. -____- I give up.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yes. That's right. XDDD Wow, so many different ways to come at the answer! Anyway, what would you like for your drabble or icon?

Well... if 9*3 = 27... which is what they gave the waitor... and the bill was only 25... and 27-25=2 -- the 2 dollars is there with the waiter.

Of course, I'm wrecking my brain over trying to figure out that this has probably got such an obvious answer, because by going by THAT the "where is the $1!" is killing me.

:D Just so you know, I've had this open for about 6 hours and came back and forth between it :P

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
...I have no idea how you got to that answer but basically, the waiter did have the two dollars, but the men paid 28 dollars, not 27 like you said. XD So, I guess that means you get either half a drabble or an icon base?

8 - I hate holes in my socks xD Just b/c they feel uncomfortable, but I'll still wear them or sew em up xD

10 - It is very tiring at times xD

Never Mind xD

I google'd it... and found the similar one and saw that I was more or less GOING in the right direction xD

Thanks for making me think! I'm TERRIBLE at puzzles/riddles like this, but they are fun xD At least if i have the answer at my finger tips so I don't have to wreck my brain to death xD

Now my question is first time everyone paid $10 later they get $ 1 refunded.
So everybody paid $9
$9 * 3 = $27
The waiter put $2 in his pocket.
$27 + $2 = $29
So, where is the remaining $1?

Well they each pay 10 bucks:
10+10+10=30
Now the waiter finds out its 25 bucks, and returns 3
The Waiter now has 27 bucks from three people.
9*3=27.
^^, the 2 dollars come into the total bill. And beat you, took me 40 seconds and a piece of paper ^^.

Now here goes one for you.

You are given a number of medicine tablets and you know that they're all of equal weight. One tablet of a greater/lesser weight is added to the pile. Now you've got mixed medicines completely indistinguishable to the naked eye.

Now, how would you find said tablet with only one weight check? Remember, you're allowed to weight only once.

A hint could be to break them up into groups. You can only read the weight on the scales once though. This one should take you longer than 5 minutes :). Good luck.

I'm not sure what tags for a meme are (and I've forgotten what a meme is -_-'') so I thought I'd just plonk something down anyway. Hey, its fair. Should I put this in my journal too? o.O
Think I will, if I get it wrong just buzz me ^^.

*hugs* Love you lots. Hope you have fun with the puzzle, I think I got that one in a week or so.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ding ding! You win either a drabble or an icon!

And silly, I already explained meme to you once. Google it! :P

[identity profile] caeliat.livejournal.com 2007-02-07 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
*Raises hand* That one is easy. ...And yes, I'm intruding. Excuse me *cough*

You pick a pill from a tablet, two from the second, three from the third and so on. You put them all on the scale - the weight difference will change according to the 'position' of the stray tablet (as in, how many stray pills you added to the scale).

I sorta knew this already but YAY for smooth peanut butter XD. I love the stuff :).

Love you *huggles*.

*Hums* Logic puzzle away!

The question is put on a tricky way. The bill is $25. They each paid $9, which ammounts to the bill plus the $2 the waiter kept to himself. The other $3 dollars were given back to the clients.

$25(bill) + $2(waiter) + $3(refund) = $30(originally paid)

lol. I'm usually no good at riddles with money, but yeah, I got this one. The equations are just screwing with me, which is a bad idea, because I know how to work backwards. xD Take the five outta the thirty, two outta the five, and return the three left. Nothing is "lost", though a waiter who suddenly realises your bill is twenty-five and not thirty...there had to have been some major drop in the price of tea or light refreshments recently to have him add five dollars. xD

And everyone is still overpaying. Someone is always going to overpay. Give everyone a dollar and sixty-six cents. Keep two cents. Put them in your piggy bank. Those things add up, and you can rub them together when you're bored. xD

Wheee~! Meme~! ^_____________________^

Nutella~! xDxDDDDDDD I have freinds obsessed with that. I put it on spicy mangos, which drives them crazy, but has convinced my that my epic goal in life, after scenting my house Earl Grey, is to find a mango/chili candy bar.

[identity profile] fickle-goddess.livejournal.com 2007-02-09 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, got it right! Though you had an advantage since everyone else already posted how they got the answers.

As for the meme, do you want a drabble or icon as your prize? XD

Our school sells mango-chocolate bars, but I don't think that they have chilli. Too bad. XD I like chilli and mango, but I really doubt that I'd be happy if they were mixed with Nutella.
