cereta. I've often thought that the more unhappy I am, the less I update my journal and write fic. 2006 was a pretty sucky year, hence not much fic but I went ahead and did this fic meme anyway. Results are tucked neatly away under a cut to keep them from clogging up your flist. ♥

The List:
I'm only putting up my finished works, no WIPs. And all my drabbles are linked in their original posts instead of separately.

Second Chances. Seto/Ryuuji, darkish fic where Seto kidnaps Ryuuji for his own good. Seto is decidedly not completely sane but that's okay, neither is Ryuuji. YGO.
So Shall You Reap. Sort of gen Founders fic. Sal and Godric are both crushing on Rowena, but it's more about how they interact as kids and grow up together than the romance angle. HP.
1sentence psychoshipping claim. Exactly what the link text says. YGO.
Little Children. The Four Horsepeople are paired with their replacements. Mostly a look at how the Them could have grown up, and what exactly it means to have defeated the Horsepeople of the Apocalypse. Good Omens fandom.

Call it the year of lots of fandoms and crossovers and RP-fic.

My favorite story of this year:

Hm. Tough one, since I wasn't actually all that happy with anything I wrote (they all had things I thought I could improve) but I actually really liked burn you just like teenage love. It's fun to reread, and that's really one of my main criteria for my own fics -- how well they stand up to repeated reading.

My best story this year:

Little Children. It really captured the mood that I was going for perfectly, and I like the way that I set everything up and had it segue. It's one of those fics that I actually think translated to text as well as it did in my head.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

So Shall You Reap. I know most of the watchers on the journal don't read it for HP fic and that genfic without popular pairings doesn't really work for most of the watchers, but I honestly think that I did a good job of writing out what the characters were like in a complex, multi-layered story and I'm surprised that not many people commented on it.

Most beloved by readers:

Possibly When Duellists Ruled The World or Little Children. I think those got the overwhelmingly positive feedback though the second one had a better chance since I x-posted a link over at the

lower_tadfield comm.

Most fun story:
Twenty Random Facts You May or May Not Know About Rasputin and Bartok. Bartok. How can any story with him not be fun?

Most sexy story:
Twenty Random Facts You May or May Not Know About Mai and Ryuuji. It had a thousand words of sex in it, c'mon, what more do you want?

Story with the single sexiest moment:
Fairy Tale of Troubled Dragons: Schadenfreude Remix. If I could rewrite it, I'd break up the chunky paragraphs so that the descriptions get highlighted better -- I was trying to stick to Neko's outline but the problem is that I ended up burying some of my favorite bits in the middle of thick paragraphs. And in case you're wondering, the moment in question is:

When Seto’s feeling masochistic, he kisses the bruises with his eyes open and looks up to Ryuuji’s laughing green eyes, so pretty and wickedly amused. Ryuuji knows what Seto’s doing and strokes his fingers through Seto’s hair, speaking lowly of Malik and dirty alleyways and needing hits – he displays the fresh marks on the inside of his arm, demands that Seto kiss those as well, pins Seto to the bed and forces Seto to listen while Ryuuji explains, painfully sweetly, exactly how it feels to have someone say your money isn’t good enough for them and what they want is to fuck your pretty mouth instead. And then he tells Seto what it feels like to need the next dose so badly that you just go along with it, sucking off a near-stranger in an alley, all for the sake of a few moments of bliss. Ryuuji wants to know how far he can push it, and it turns out that the breaking point is when he speculates out loud about how desperate Mokuba might have gotten, and if he ever had to do that – it’s at that point that Seto just pushes Ryuuji off him and goes over to the door. He picks up an empty needle and tilts in Ryuuji’s direction, mock-toasting all the dark-haired boys with more beauty than brains.

I seriously, seriously love twisted, self-hating sex where it's not "I hate you so I'll fuck you" but "I hate myself so I'll fuck you". Especially if both characters are acting like that and lashing out at each other.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Ax/Tobias. Because they're technically uncle/nephew and they're different species and Rachel/Tobias is totally my canon OTP.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
So Shall You Reap. I hadn't ever really thought too much about the characters before, and I'd definitely never mused much over Helga so it was surprising to see how this managed to center around all four of them and have so much of how Helga thought. I just really liked the way that this story sliced through all four of them cleanly.

Hardest story to write:
Twenty Random Facts You May or May Not Know About Rogue and Gambit. Because I'd never written for Marvel before and really doubted that I knew the characters well enough to write.

Easiest story to write:
Twenty Random Facts You May or May Not Know About Marik and Yami at DU. 4K+ of solid torture and mindfuckery, c'mon. The problem was getting all of it written down in a way that more or less flowed.

Biggest Disappointment:
When Duellists Ruled The World. It's such a good, solid idea that I hate that I couldn't write it better.

Biggest Surprise:
I wrote sex scenes. Het and>/i> slash. What next, femmeslash?!

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I don't think anything really gives away a lot about me? Though reading Fairy Tale of Troubled Dragon: Schadenfreude Remix is a pretty good way to tell what exactly makes me happy in fic, since it hits most of my buttons dead-on.

I thought I read "Little Children", but I don't see any comments by me in that particular post... I'll have to read it again later - especially now that I am halfway through Good Omens. Funny thing is while reading about Them I couldn't help but think of something (I believe it was Little Children) that you had wrote. Not the details, but some things here or there that I couldn't get ouf of my head... Not a bad thing.

I still adored those Twenty Random Facts... Those were enjoyable - the ones I recall reading ^_~

I have a whole new appreciation for Helga. Helga the underappreciated, the heart of them, the one who totally would say "I'll take the lot and teach them all!", badger-hearted Helga. Back off, Tom, you picked a fight with House Hufflepuff, and you are going *down*.

Badger could kill a snake, no contest.

Also, darn it, now I have two DC plotbunnies from reading these stories. *sulks*

*dies* Yeah, Sal TOTALLY should have kissed him back. Though please note that the story didn't directly touch upon what happened after Godric killed Sal; for all we know, they had sex and then in the morning, when Sal was still distant, Godric decided that he just had to try harder to get Sal back into the group.

And yeah, I know, I never thought much about Helga before! She was just the kind-hearted Hufflepuff. And then I was writing that story, and I just kept thinking about how it's gold, silver, bronze and yellow as the secondary colors for the Houses. Gold is the most precious but silver is stronger than gold, and bronze is heavier than both of them. There are, in myths, Golden Ages, Silver Ages, and Bronze Ages, but no Yellow Ages.

One of these things is not like the other, and that's Helga. Sal can be misunderstood and pseudo-evil all that he wants, but it's Helga that's the heart of them, like you put it. Helga's the one that binds them together and keeps them from falling apart; she's the solid ground to their brilliance.

Hm. Okay. This isn't really in depth, it's just a tiny drabble but...

Jason licks his lips, and ducks. He never wears his Red Hood mask for these training sessions; the domino is enough.

Rose is always in full costume, though, even though Slade isn't. Jason thinks that Rose probably needs the extra armoring, because when he hits her, it's harder than when she hits him. Makes sense; Jason's very solid (there are other words like 'strong' or 'muscled' but after spending some time as a ghost, Jason likes to think of himself as solid), and Rose isn't all that solid. She's pretty, though. Really pretty, even though her costume hides that.

She's also aimed a kick at him that's good enough to clip him on the jaw, and she seizes the advantage to drive straight in and try to pin him. Daddy's watching.

Rose always fights better when Slade's there, his presence is a distraction and incentive at once.

Jason's pretty sure that if Bruce were watching, the two of them wouldn't be fighting. At least, not like this. Though with Dick having already gotten training from Slade, and Tim having gone to Lady Shiva, being assassin-trained is practically the new black for Robins. Steph and Jason are the only ones who didn't get that sort of chance and with Talia, Jason made up for lost time.

In more ways than one, of course, but with her, it was always about Bruce and her beloved.

With Rose, it's about Slade.

Kind of refreshing to have someone who isn't revolving around Bruce's personal black hole of angst and vigilantism, really. Jason likes that.

It's why when he pins her to the mat, he kisses her. The fact that Slade's watching is really just extra incentive for Jason; not a distraction.

If it had been long enough to be a fic, I totally would have named it 'Distraction and Incentive'. And I was thinking of the scene where Cass and Rose fight for the idea of Rose being distracted but also spurred on by Slade's presence, even just during training. ^_~

Ooooh. In my head, Jason got trained by a lot of people. A lot. Most of which had fought against Batman in the past, and Jason always hits them a little harder than strictly kosher during training because, well, they'd fought against Batman and Robin II and his body remembers these things. Coming back from the dead didn't erase his memory of that (or of the way that Bruce would say his name, Jason, like something hungry and wonderful at once).

For some reason, MSN refuses to work, but AIM is working fine. Can you get online there?

...Ooooh. See, I am totally bribeable like that. Now, who do you think would be likely to train Jason? In my head, I kind of want Cain involved just because Tim got Shiva but Cass already got Cain but then again, if Dick got Slade and Jason got him as well, he might as well get Cain too. And Shiva. And have them all be weirdly interrelating, and have the fic chopped into slices where it discusses one move he learns from each of them within the context of the next person who'll teach him.

...And then the last person loops back to the first, so it's recursive because the first person was Bruce, and Bruce is the end of all paths. He is Jason's Rome.

Jason gets whoever Talia hires. He was totally trained by Shiva, and quite possibly also Cain depending on if Cain was still in jail then.

Oh. I love that format. YES.

Talia. Cain. Shiva. Slade. Too bad Selina's out. *considers* You're better at knowing the nitpicky little details of canon. XD Who else could we throw in there?

And yes, it does sound like it would work spectacularly well. Of course, having now told it to you, it won't be all shiny-new and cool. *pouts*

Also, regarding DC fic, thank you for posting here and reminding me to post your Xmas fic to my fiction journal! *dies* I think that I got a little overambitious concerning the pairings, because I wanted to try writing Slade for you, but it ended up being Rose/Jason, Bruce/Jason, Cass/Steph, Steph/Jason, somewhat Slade/Jason/Rose, and there was basically a moment when I just froze, looked at the screen and went all, "What the hell, Dick's the slut of the DCverse, not Jason!"

They're both really good. I think I prefer this ending, too, although the bit about Tim in Bruce's bed doesn't strike me as quite right for Jason. The Talia mention... oh, JASON HONEY.

FYI, Dick never went by Ravager. Rose offered the name, but he didn't take it.
