...yay for hypocrisy?
Oct. 2nd, 2005 09:00 pmAustria upholds objections to Turkey joining the EU.
What gets me is that I lived in Austria for about twelve, thirteen years. And had a few bad experiences with racism, both towards myself and my family and friends. So, it seems a little hypocritical of them but then again, those were individual incidents. The EU is about governments, not about people on their own.
...Personally, I don't think that Turkey belongs there, partly because of the article I linked to before and again, partly because of the cultural divide. The EU isn't the UN; it's not about bridging differences, it's about economics and acting together. If Turkey's going to just refuse to play along with EU rules, then why let it join?
You certainly wouldn't let someone play baseball with you if they used the bat to beat the pitcher senseless.
