YAY ICONS! I woke up one morning with inspiration for an icon set floating about in my head, then spent most of a day working on them. Cue a set of 85 '[name] is my hero' icons. XD The icons are of various characters/groups from DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek and Misc. Characters featured included members of the Batfamily, the Supes, X-Men, Teen Titans, Outsiders, Green Lanterns, Spidey-world and many more.

Choose your hero/ine here at [livejournal.com profile] icon_d! And if you can think of a hero/ine that'd icon well (as in, has a very recognizable symbol), then go ahead and suggest it via comments. I'm thinking of making an Avatar set and maybe a Naruto set, with the village and element signs, though that'd obviously be more for groups than for individual chars, alas.

In Domino, there's a shade of blue known as Kaiba blue. It's popular for bedrooms and the trim on hats for schoolgirls. Soon, it turns into the blue of the uniform skirts and jackets.

They call it Kaiba blue even when nobody remembers who the Kaibas were; like Prussia, they are a thing of the past and history books.

Their name is remembered for the wrong reasons. There is no longer any awe attached to it.

Now that I've got THAT out of my system, sorry for everyone who's been wondering why I've been MIA lately. Willow aka [livejournal.com profile] witchwillow and Zoe aka [livejournal.com profile] tes_aiden came over to crash with me and I was busy having SO MUCH FUN with them that I totally stayed offline!

More details. )

Also, PHOTOS will later be up. Both photos from the con, and photos of the combined coolness that is the FWZ triad.

[livejournal.com profile] shantih: I'd like to hear about novels you're reading that you really enjoy. Some of the things I've read recently that I enjoyed most I would never have known existed if not for random recs from my f-list.

Whenever college gets tough, my reading habits change. I stop reading novels and instead pick up collections of short stories because it's easier to get through single stories while having dinner or waiting in line than a full novel. So this list of the latest 5 books I've read is weighed towards the short and amusing.

Weddings, Cyberspace, Shiny Love, Fantasy & Sci-fi. )

I'm in a white sari with a blue border and a turquoise blue blouse.

One of the things that I love most about the UN is that I can wake up in the morning, decide I feel like wearing a sari, and just go into work in a sari. That simple. Nobody's going to ask me if it's some sort of holiday or give me an odd look.

Can you imagine being in a normal corporate setting and walking into school in a sari or some other form of ethnic dress that isn't suit+tie official?

I can't. Not without it being Sri Lankan Independence setting or New Year's, one of those holidays that might justify the non-professional clothing.

Saris are a pain to wear, really. They're difficult to sit in, they get caught in the wheels of your chair, you have to pick it up to go down the stairs, they require a lot of safety pins and white ones especially need to be kept absolutely stain-free.

I love them anyway.

There's something so elegant and timeless about the way they drape. A sari is really just a blouse, a skirt and about six feet of cloth, but wearing a sari always makes me smile a little whenever I see myself in a mirror.

See, I'm not a good Sri Lankan girl (my hair is growing out of a red mohawk, it's red and black, I'm wearing a Nike watch on one wrist) but in a sari, I feel like maybe I'm the new type of Sri Lankan-American-European girl. Like growing up in Europe and attending college in America don't mean I'm less Sri Lankan, just that I'm more me and less culturally bound, but I can still choose to show off parts of my culture when I want to.

In conclusion? I like this sari. If I were capable of wearing saris on my own, I'd bring one back with me to uni and put it on every now and then.

The penguin returns to Ctrl+Alt+Dlt!

Penguin belongs to the Linux-user who rarely appears in the strip but lives in their house and has a door with electric wiring. They're my two favorite characters in the entire strip.

...And yes, I do think that's worth making an entire post about. XD

But for the benefit of the people on my flist who like a little more news with their posts, Pepsi Sponsored stuff on LJ is gone. No more mood themes, no more v-gifts and no more layouts. *cheers*

Next Saturday, I'll be flying back to the States. And I still need to send out postcards. Egads.

PaperBlanks official site.

I am currently madly in love with their products, having seen them in shops in Vienna and fallen desperately, unfairly, unstoppably in lust with the smoothness of their pages and the textured, magnetized covers.

I went shopping with Numa the other day. What I bought was this, in Noir (fourth from the top of the thumbnails on the left side).

The pages are unlined and a beautiful creamy shade. The spine is open and handstitched. The cover is silk, and my fingers have yet to grow tired of stroking it. I have calligraphy pens at home and a bottle of ink that I plan on using to inscribe little wisps of thoughts and lines that strike me as lovely and worth remembering.

It won't be a journal or a sketchbook. It'll be something beautiful that I possess; something decadent and different and wildly esoteric-looking, like a spell book.

Sometimes, your soul just craves beauty.

Recs ahoy!

[livejournal.com profile] ego_chan asked for HP fic recs. I got so carried that I ended up with enough recs to fill a post, so under the cut, there are recs for Lucius/Severus, Draco/Severus, James/Lily, Narcissa/Lucius, Regulus/Remus, Lily/Narcissa, Pansy/Luna, Cho/Hermione, Tonks/Hermione, Bellatrix-gen and Hermione/herself. Some have sex, others don't and all have a little desc saying what its appeal is.

Recs galore, take whatever you like. )

Meme time!

Leave me a comment asking for a rec, and list all the fandoms you'd want me to find you a rec for. Then repost this in your journal.

Feel free to skip that last step if you're busy or just lazy. ^_~

Computer at home died, Internet there runs on a modem so I can't hook it up to my laptop, shall be online during work hours and not home time. Still living with parents.

NOW FOR HP 7! )

If anyone knows of a slash-friendly RP set around the time of Grindelwald and Dumbledore, or even a Marauder's-era one (I have a sudden, renewed fondness for Regulus) that's looking for players, let me know.

Sian & I! )

HP: Order of the Phoenix. Liked it better than the book, had a long vidcast with Sian that got erased when my laptop crashed while recording it, and just read some spoilers that was in a link in WR's post.

OMG! I just went to the link again and the journal has been deleted! Do you think that means the spoilers were real and the journal got deleted for posting copyrighted material before it was even released, or did the ontd_trash journal owners delete it to give the scanned pages more street cred?

...If those spoilers (actual scanned pages from the book, supposedly) were real, I will fucking laugh at how awful JKR's writing has gotten. I really, really will. XD And then I'll curse the 20 Euros I spent buying that piece of trash.

Yesterday, I did an absolutely awesome job on the website that I'm designing for the UN -- it was so awesome that not only my boss but also the IT guy complimented me on it. *preens* I told my mother about it and she brought me a huge sunflower in a vase that I bought her years ago for Mother's Day, so that's brightening up my office at the moment.

I think that I'm going to update on every odd day this July, just for the hell of it. So, with that said, Happy belated Birthday, Josie! If you want a fic or drabble or icon or header, just drop me a comment and I'll add it to the list of stuff to do.

Also, Happy Birthday in advance to Dani, who's going to celebrate another year on this planet tomorrow. ♥ I'll e-mail you my giftie, okay?

Apart from that, SIAN IS COMING DOWN THIS MONDAY! *dance of glee*

So, guess who's flying down to see me this summer?

[livejournal.com profile] paralinguistic! I flew up to see her last summer and it was utterly awesome. But that was only for one day whereas this time, we get two whole weeks together and might even be taking a train down to Paris. As it is now, she's arriving at 11:55 on the 9th July (day before my birthday) and I'll be picking her up at the airport, then we'll take a taxi back to my place.

*SO EXCITED*

20 days until I see Sian! I can't wait!

Someone ought to write Nohari/Johari fic. It's probably going to end up being me if nobody else does it.

Right now, I'm at Numa's (slept over there last night, taking a break from working on my last paper atm), and I ended up doing the Johari and Nohari windows. Do them for me, please? I'll do them for you in return if you do. ♥

Meeting Kathy and Numa tomorrow so that they can help me move into my new quarters and talked to Kathy on the phone yesterday with Numa. Soon the Eternal Three will be reunited! *getting plenty of hugs from Numa in the meantime which is good since she's been affection-starved at uni*

I got an e-mail from the girl commissioned to draw me a Ryuuji/Terry pic at AnimeBoston (I also commissioned a Seto/Ryuuji one from a different artist) and she included a scan of the pic so far! And because I know there are other people who ship Ryuuji/Terry on my flist *coughs at [livejournal.com profile] ego_chan, [livejournal.com profile] pikachumaniac, [livejournal.com profile] 9tails, [livejournal.com profile] abrandnewboom and [livejournal.com profile] witchwillow, I'm sticking up the lineart here for all of you to see!

Want an icon like the above? Comment with a link to a photo of you (unless I know what you look like already) or with a doll of you, and what flag you want. I know that many of you guys are multiracial, so you get to choose which origin you want to flaunt.

I can't do multiple flags in one icon, sorry. ♥

Why my icon says 'Asian Pride'. )

Neko's ([livejournal.com profile] nekokilala here now. XD I picked her from the airport, we came home, she unwrapped her gifts, we had dinner, we watched Emperor's New Groove and then just hung out.

Until 2AM.

Even though none of us had got any sleep the night before.

And WHAT we were talking about? Angel!Seto x Demon!Ryuuji with Priest/Angel!Set and Demon!Marik and Incubus!Bakura and Succubus!Mai. *snickers* Crack, humor and torture including Ryuuji having his wings rubbed with holy water and Seto getting licked. A lot. Because he's lickable. And that needs to be iconized - Seto with a O_o expression, asking "What do you mean, I'm lickable?" Which makes me think of VS and how much her parents would freak if one of her online friends flew over to visit her.

We're about to go into Boston to watch GoF as well as get some shopping done and eat at this great Japanese place I know. I'll have to get my French paper done at some point though, so I guess that means we'll both appear online later.

Neko's back now; entry over! *really really happy to have Neko here; both of us need a holiday*

P.S. Fear my new icon.

Edit: Ack. Just saw I got comments that weren't e-mailed to me. I'll reply to them later, when we're not about to run out to get lunch. *hugs and loves you all*
