Year divisions might be arbitrary but whatever, this is a fresh year. So far, I have:

  • argued with my parents about whether dragging me to a dharna would be encroaching on my religious freedom. I won and therefore, they went with the maid and I have the house all to myself.
  • been reminded that I have friends who love me and miss me.
  • heard that New Zealand has beaches with black sand that I MUST visit
  • been tempted to join that group of people who write fic for music videos. I kid you not, they're out there and they're prolific.
  • found out I will need 3,315,000 NP in my bank account to get 1K of NP per day in interest.
  • read Jason training Damian fic.
  • listened to a song from Legally Blonde: The Musical on repeat.
  • reaffirmed my commitment to living.
  • made a New Year's Resoluion. )

First of all, click this to get a scary look at exactly how much photos are tampered with before they're put on the covers of magazines. It's an animated gif, I don't recognize the woman in the photo but gods, they've changed her a ton.

Secondly, being at home without Internet has resulted in me watching more TV along with my sewing projects, and I've yet again managed to get myself hooked on stuff that hardly anyone else watches!

1. Help! I'm A Teenage Outlaw!

This airs at 11:30PM on Nick and features a twelve-year-old who found out that his mother was a highwaywoman before she dies, and now needs to carry on the family tradition. It's set in 1643, and his sidekicks are Lady Devereux (a name I've always loved) disguised as a fellow peasant called Deedee and Moses, a ten-year-old inventing genius. Deedee is actually the smartest of the lot, and although there's only one season of this show, it's funny and easy enough to follow. Kinda like Big Wolf on Campus, except cuter.

2. Boston Legal

I've only seen one ep of this show but in that one ep, there were two heterosexual men that have sleepovers, a kickass African female lawyer, an old kickass woman lawyer that's the boss of an incompetent African laywer and white lawyer, and a female judge. Talk about diversity and a good way to yank in Fans of Color (FoC).

3. Monk

Okay, this I got into last night, because of Numa. She sat down and watched two and a half eps with me, and the best way to get me into a show, any show at all, is to watch it with me. If you can explain it to me and be there to chat to, then I'm more likely to pay atttention to the show. In this case, it was funny enough that I think it's worth watching some more of. I know that someone else on my flist also mentioned it to me once, but I can't think whom, unfortunately.

The mention of Fans of Color made me think about the music I liked -- I've attended three concerts in Boston so far (Flogging Molly, Placebo and Placebo again) and both times, I was the only South Asian there. Not just the only South Asian girl, but the only South Asian, full stop. Sum 41 has a South Asian guy on drums, I think, and Damage has a Sri Lankan lead singer but apart from that, the music scene that I'm aware of seems to be split mostly between white and black, with J-Pop and J-Rock also starting to creep in. I mean, punk is angry lower middle class or upper-middle-class-pretending-to-be-lower, punk rock and pop punk are mostly the same. Hip-hop, rap and R'n'B tend to be black-dominated, and I have no idea about hardcore but from what I've seen from what Savior's shown me, that's white-dominated.

Good thing I ID myself more by my gender than by my race, huh?

Oh, and I found out what AS/S stands for. *dies*

The all-female band that I liked on Saturday is fronted by a chick called Emilie Autumn and her music style is Victorian Industrial, or classics-influenced deathrock according to YouTube comments.

So far, my favorite song of hers is Marry Me. Be warned, the link goes to a YouTube vid which is actually just a still image put there so that the song can be uploaded. I love the lyrics; I think that all of you should go listen to it now.

Also, YouTube viewers work fast. I've only seen 628 videos during the whole time I've been on YouTube, according to my account, but this video I uploaded which is a brief snippet of the Smallville blooper reel where Lex's actor leans in to kiss Lionel's actor has been viewed 428 times at the time that I'm posting this and favorited twice.

Think of this as a meme, if you like.

I want you to make me a song from phrases from my past entries. Just go back, pick out bits and pieces, and write me a set of lyrics. Do it for me and if you repost it, I promise that I'll do it for you. ♥

I did it for Savior over here if you want an example of how it goes.

If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, RHYTHMBOX etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...
7. When you're finished tag some other people to do it!

Since I'm nice, I'm going the extra mile and uploading these songs onto yousendit to share with you guys. Well, that and I promised [livejournal.com profile] nevita music a while ago and never actually uploaded it, so this'll be a very delayed feel-better giftie to her.

Opening Credits: Coming Too Close -- No Use For A Name.

That's a little too depressed for how I currently feel? But if we're looking at my life overall, yeah, sure, I guess that'll work.

Waking Up: Once Upon A Dream -- Sleeping Beauty Disney soundtrack.

...I'm not making this up, I swear.

First Day of School: One Last Chance -- Hercules Disney soundtrack.

Again, not making this up! This being the song that Phil sings when Hercules begs him for training. XD

Falling in Love: Hang On To Your IQ -- Placebo.

I suppose that means I'm meant to stay smart even when swept off my feet? It's a reasonable enough demand.

Fight Song: Son of a Preacher -- Janis Joplin.

Okay, accurate streak ends here. I mean, okay, this song is talking about being pretty much untouchable but how is anyone supposed to argue to this, let alone fight? Unless it's in super-slow-motion or something.

Breaking Up: Now Or Never -- Elvis Presley.

I used to love his songs when I was little. Though if this is meant to be a break up song, that must mean that it was 'never' as opposed to 'now'.

Prom: Limerick -- Kathy and Amila.

Uh. That's a recording that Kathy and I made at 4:04AM, having finally finished watching all of Gundam Wing. *cracking up while listening to it* This probably doesn't count as a song, but hey, it came up, so it's fair game. And despite the title, there isn't actually a limerick in it, though I know that I recorded one with her that had to do with me killing her.

Life: For The Longest Time -- Billy Joel.

Yeah. ♥ This is also what I consider the perfect flippantshipping (Mai/Ryuuji) song because it's all light-hearted and romantic and so casually happy.

Driving: Who's The Fool Now? -- Rocking Horse Winners.

Gods, trust me, if I ever try driving again, I probably will end up looking like a fool in jail.

Flashback: All Fired Up -- Pat Benatar.

This is actually a really good fight/energy-maximiser song. Fast-paced, upbeat, and strong. I used to listen to it to make me feel more awake in the mornings.

Getting Back Together: Basket Case -- Green Day.

That's not encouraging at all. But I love this song because the first time I heard it was when Alessandro and his band played it in the Octogon on the last day for school for the Grade 12s (a year above me, what you'd call the seniors in America), and I liked Aless. Matt introed me to him, and he made enough of an impression on me for me to bother typing up some convos with him and Matt for future reading.

Wedding: Oh Starry Night -- Sailor Moon soundtrack.

Don'tjudgeme. *dies* I remember being fourteen and singing along passionately to this, very off-key of course.

Party: Accidentally In Love -- Shrek 2 Soundtrack.

Oh, I remember when I bought this soundtrack, I used to pace around while listening to this. Then my younger cousin, Devi-Monkey, would imitate me. And I'd touch the doorframes and wall at each opposing end of the room when pacing, and if I missed one, she'd go "No! You have to touch it!". Because otherwise it must have felt incomplete to her. *loves her little cousin so much* Most adorable little brat ever.

Birth of A Child: Bank of Boston Beauty Queen -- Dresden Dolls.

I technically cheated a little on this since what came up was actually the Highway Blues sax solo that everyone gets with Windows Media Player, so I didn't think it was worth uploading a sample that everyone has, so I just hit skip to get to the next song.

Final Battle: Swabber -- Flogging Molly.

The only lyrics to this song that's nearly pure music is "Don't know where I'm going." Which means either I got lost on the way to the final battle, I died and don't know what the afterlife holds, or I won and have no idea what the next step is.

Couldn't find out where it's stored, so can't upload it either, sorry.

Funeral Song: Both Reached For The Gun -- Chicago Soundtrack.

At least it explains how I die!

Ending Credits: Mr. Self Destruct -- Nine Inch Nails.

Everyone has this song already, I'm sure. I got it because someone used the lyrics for a Heero wallpaper that I liked, so I wanted to hear it. And it does actually fit him pretty well. XD

On the 8th of November, Placebo and She Wants Revenge are going to perform at the Roxy. Anyone want to go with me?

*pokes Lily* And by that, I mean you. I owe you for helping me move stuff anyway, so I can treat you to the ticket. ♥
