fickle: (freedom)
Just applied to join [livejournal.com profile] feminist_fandom, after [livejournal.com profile] akiko suggested I join.

Why was I talking to this stranger in the first place? Well, Fandom Wank had something about a war over on [livejournal.com profile] yaoi, and one of the people involved commented that "Uh, yes. I am a feminist. You ask like it's a bad thing.". That led to me making the following comment, which spawned a thread that got me a lot of compliments on the icon and link both. I fed them the slut link as well, and whee, more happy people.

My favorite response was definitely the sociology of gender teacher who said she's going to share the links with her class. Seriously, that made my night. XD

I also set my 'freedom' icon to default there. *nods* It needs more love. Because honestly, I think I love this icon a lot. Normally, if you had a clip like this of a girl dancing like that, then it would end up either sexually exploitative or just mocking her (and I'll admit, the original icon I made said "iPod love gone wrong" so not very enlightened of me), but that's not really fair. It's her body, and her choice what to do with it. I doubt very much anyone forced her into making the clip, it's there for public distribution, and in the end, I think that more people should like the way they look without any hang-ups about it, or about what it says about them to actually feel comfortable in their own skin.

And I still haven't finished my entry on Take Back the Night.

Twenty Random Facts You May Or May Not Know About Ryuuji Otogi.

Notes: Snagged this meme from FIC, shall be posting it in my fiction journal later.

1) The first time Ryuuji ever experimented with make-up was when he was five years old. He'd snuck into the quiet room (the one with sheets all over everything that the servants talk about behind their hands when they speak of his mother) and pulled out all the drawers. Hair-clips had tumbled around him, sticks of eyeliner and jars of blush so old that it was caked. He thought of his father and smeared it over his face until he looked like a beautiful child-clown, delicate bone structure and garish red lips.

2) The second time was when he acted in a production of Midsummer Night's Dream. He was Puck, impish follower of King Oberon, declaiming his lines with perfect inflections and flawless timing. The audience adored him, and he adored their adoration.

3) While he was taking his penultimate bow, he decided to be an actor. And a scriptwriter, because nobody had written anything good enough to suit him yet. He'd make a play the world would remember; he'd put words into their mouths long after his own corpse had decomposed.
