fickle: (treasure)
So, since I have finally discovered that my uni library has a a DVD section, I've been trying to catch up on those 'classic' movies that everyone talks about but that I've never actually seen. So far, I've watched The Breakfast Club, Casablanca, Thelma & Lousie and Romeo and Juliet. The last being the version made by Leonardio-person. AT the moment, I'm watching Welcome to the Dollhouse because the title reminded me of the Ibsen version.

If anyone has any recs for other movies (on my current list is Chasing Amy but can't think of anything else), then please comment to tell me. Chances are, if you think I've seen it, I probably haven't unless it was released very recently (like, within the last two years) or is a Disney film. *had parents that were very strict when it came to TV*

Edit: Okay, no reccing horror movies! I hate horror movies and there is no way that I can watch them, even for the sake of catching up with American culture.
fickle: (seto: pissing me off)
Some days, I really, really hate people.

Elie Wiesel, for those of you who don't know, wrote a very famous book called Night about his experiences of the Nazi death camps. It's an incredibly moving and emotionally honest book. I grew up in Austria, I grew up knowing of the concentration camps and death camps and the atrocities committed, but absolutely nothing brought it home like the way that book did.

It horrifies me to think that even now, so many years after the Holocaust and probably when Wiesel thought he was safe, someone would target him for anti-Semitic reasons. Hasn't he suffered enough already? Attacking anyone based on such a stupid reason is awful but to go after someone that's had to live through an experience like that is the kind of thing that makes me want to scream -- there should be a level of pain that if you endure, you will not have to suffer more.

Argh. Breathing is ridiculously difficult when I'm this outraged.
