Britney's bald, blah blah blah. Not the important bit. I was reading Go Fug Yourself, the site that's basically devoted to mocking famous fashion mishaps, and they had this article on Britney's new hairdo.

The part that makes it worth posting about? The first link in their article goes to an entry in [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt.

I am amazed.
fickle: (technology: mac x vista)

"I wouldn't play you even to save the world."
"But would you play me to destroy it?"

Attribute the lines to anyone you damn well want. XD

In other news, I've been playing around with [livejournal.com profile] only_fiction nearly all day, trying to get tags lined up and indented in the sidebar. I did find something that would work for it, but it required me having a paid account and I am not getting a paid account for my fic journal. Nope, no way. I'll fiddle around with it some more tomorrow.

Plus, I now have an awesome Mac/Vista icon, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] xinda and inspired by Allow which is a slashy Mac/Vista fic based off the this commercial. Yes, she wrote a fic that's over 6K of words based on a thirty-second commercial, and she made it interesting. Warning, fic in question might not be for the faint of heart since it portrays the two networking in great detail, but if you can take explicit slash, go for it.

[livejournal.com profile] googlebrat's Cybersex fic is still the best long series of techslash that I've ever read, though. It's what got me squeeing over Alienware, after all! Unlike the above rec, though, this fic is about real PCs and Macs and Linux and so geeky that it made me squee with every little injoke that I actually got.

In semi-geeky talk, I finally watched Spiderman 2 today, squeed a little more over Kyle Rayner (I will soon make a post saying why even non-comics people need to love him), and preened about the fact that [livejournal.com profile] xinda is very likely to visit me for AnimeBoston since my parents said that I can send her a hundred dollars to help with travel costs and a roundtrip plane ticket isn't much more than that. XDDD It'll be so awesome if she and Muse-y can make it.

I also stumbled across a fic that's Seto(YGO)/Lex(Smallville). This mostly amused me because not only do I like Smallville and have YGO as one of my main fandoms (despite [livejournal.com profile] katarik tempting me to the DC side, evil thing ^_~), but I've been RPing Ryuuji/Lex and Seto/Ryuuji lately. Though I really do think that Seto and Lex are alike and that the fic works well for what they were like when they were young. The author clearly has a good grasp on Seto and the driving forces behind him, and her Lex is precisely as w00bie-like as he is in the show.

Also, on a slash level, the Green Goblin in the first Spiderman movie is so, so gay. He's so gay, it even affects Norman and makes him slink on all fours, crawling over his own rug. I mean, if the mirror scene isn't slashy, I don't know what is. Speaking of which, I absolutely loved the actor there -- he did a fantastic job of changing his facial expressions to make the person in the mirror look completely different from himself. Green Goblin, sans costume, is disturbingly sexy. Why are the psychos always the cute ones?

I'm usually hard to please with movie-adaptions of source material that I love (one example being LotR, another being Catwoman), but the first Spiderman movie was pretty good. XD The second failed to reel me in as tightly, and I thought that Peter walking away from a guy he could see being beaten in front of him was kinda off-base, but the first was definitely good. Worth watching in my opinion, anyway.

I'm rating them based on how well they lived up to all the hype about them, and on my personal opinion of them. Listed in the order watched, more or less. This isn't really meant to be a list of objective reviews of stats and since both of the ratings are highly subjective, you've got every right to disagree with me on the particular merits of a film -- or, conversely, the problems it has.

Weekend trip to NJ was cancelled because I'm too exhausted to go. I feel like hell about doing that to Cid but... *could no way make it*. Have an open offer to treat her to a movie or something else if she'd like, though, to make up for having to pull out of this.

As a sidenote, I'm taking a class on Williams and Capote during which we spend nearly all the time talking about the homosexual subtext they coded into their works, I cannot believe that I get to actually be a slash fangirl in class and get graded on it. Unfortunately, my speciality is writing fic and not trying to find canon support for slash ships and I doubt my prof would accept fic in place of an essay.

Too bad that I'm not the kind of fan that insists that a pairing must be canon just because I like it, right? I like what I like and don't care if the text says it makes sense -- most of the time, the pairings I like are because I like the characters and want them to get more screentime so if they're paired together, then I get two awesome characters being written about/drawn at once instead of just one of them. Gen featuring those two characters would be equally awesome, I think, but a lot of the time, it's hard to find gen about the chars I like just because I have a very bad habit of liking the bit players, like Tybalt from Romeo & Juliet or Laertes from Hamlet to take two Shakespearean examples (I ship Tybalt/Mercutio and Hamlet/Laertes, for those of you that are interested).

Also, we had a makeup class today for the one that was cancelled on Tuesday and the professor brought us pie to make up for. Pie. I had a slice of a really rich, delicious chocolate pie. It was more like cake than pie-pie because it didn't have any breaded crust or anything but gods, it was so chocolatey and awesome.

So, since I have finally discovered that my uni library has a a DVD section, I've been trying to catch up on those 'classic' movies that everyone talks about but that I've never actually seen. So far, I've watched The Breakfast Club, Casablanca, Thelma & Lousie and Romeo and Juliet. The last being the version made by Leonardio-person. AT the moment, I'm watching Welcome to the Dollhouse because the title reminded me of the Ibsen version.

If anyone has any recs for other movies (on my current list is Chasing Amy but can't think of anything else), then please comment to tell me. Chances are, if you think I've seen it, I probably haven't unless it was released very recently (like, within the last two years) or is a Disney film. *had parents that were very strict when it came to TV*

Edit: Okay, no reccing horror movies! I hate horror movies and there is no way that I can watch them, even for the sake of catching up with American culture.

It's the middle of finals. One week from now, I will be gone from the Net and in Austria.

And yet, I took a walk out to the library today, paid a fine for burning a book (by ACCIDENT, I leant it against the cooker while, well, cooking and failed to notice it was catching on fire until the scorching scent grew overwhelming by which point the cover's corners and the edges of the inner pages was burnt black), and borrowed some books. Including the first series of a volume called Absolute Boyfriend which I now want the rest of, for reasons which range from pretty boys (shallllllow) to the fact that it sounds like Peach Girl with a sci-fi angle. Peach Girl being a really girly shoujo manga I borrowed from the Somerville library, and have memories of being fascinated by how incredibly bad it was.

Absolute Boyfriend doesn't even have good reviews!

On a more amusing note, one of the books I borrowed was Son of Rock by Gordon Korman, and it had the following quotation:

The musicians of the Concussed festival were a motley lot who belonged on Yu-Gi-Oh cards more than any concert stage.

Dude, if I saw a band that dressed like any of my favorite monsters (including Harpie's Brother and Fire Sorceress), I'd so buy their music just for the hell value of it.

P.S. Savior, MSN is being a bitch to me for a change and not letting me see your messages or even reply, even though I signed in and out to try to fix it. I'm going to turn off my comp, restart and see if that fixes it.

Fixed. Also, since if I'm writing really fluffy het fic because of a request, O ri Chori from Lagaan is probably not the best thing to have playing in the background.

Link of the Day: This Is War.

Nope, not a political link. It's about Animorphs, actually, and why the final book ended the way it did. While procrastinating on writing final papers, I've been cleaning up my tags and found out that I had an Animorphs tag, which led me to a very old entry where I discussed a letter that [livejournal.com profile] nyrhtek had linked to wherein K.A. Applegate discusses the end of the Animorphs series.

And I hated the end of the series. I really, really loathed it. I wanted to scream and fanwank about it when I read it though thankfully, I didn't have a livejournal or a deadjournal back then to rage about it.

Why thankfully?

Because I was completely and totally wrong to hate it as I did. She had a really good reason for ending it the way she did and just because I hated it on a personal level and was horrified at what happened to my favorite chars, well, reading her letter got me over that. Especially the following paragraph:

Pretty soon you'll all be of voting age, and of draft age. So when someone proposes a war, remember that even the most necessary wars, even the rare wars where the lines of good and evil are clear and clean, end with a lot of people dead, a lot of people crippled, and a lot of orphans, widows and grieving parents.

A-fucking-men.

...And now I want a Tobias-hawk icon. Or maybe a Rachel-Tobias one. Canon ship ftw, in this case. Which is another reason why the Animorphs books are awesome -- they're good enough to make me ship a canon pairing, which is pretty rare where I'm concerned. I'm picky about shippings and pairings and unless I like both characters in a pairing, it's unlikely I'll like the actual pairing as a whole. And I'm even pickier about female characters, because there aren't that many of them to begin with and I tend to get a little irate when I keep empathizing better with the male chars than the females. Nothing against guys but it would be nice to have some female characters out there that I can understand and really get behind, you know what I mean?

So, Rachel/Tobias? Totally my rock-solid OTP there. Hits all my buttons and has two of my top three chars from the series. Occasionally my top two depending on what I've been reading recently.

Edit: I have an Animorphs icon now. XD Text is Elfangor's hirac delest, image is of Rachel and Tobias dancing. With apparently Ax-the-Afro-Andalite in the background.

Death Note 1.

Death Note 2.

Death Note 3-15.

So, in the interests of having another fandom in common with Savior ([livejournal.com profile] fairly_grimm), I d/led the Death Note manga 1-15. And now I'm sharing them with all of you, having already given them to read. Above are the zips, and they're fairly good quality (here is a page if you want to see what size/resolution there are) so enjoy them, for those of you who haven't already read it or have only seen the anime.

Link to this post as much as you like, it's good for 100 downloads and I'd rather it expired of too much attention than just time. ♥

You know the new feature el-jay has that lets you know when you've been added to someone's friendslist? Well, I found out that [livejournal.com profile] myfandoms added me to their flist so I toddled over to check them out on the off-chance that I wanted to friend them back.

It turned out that the journal is basically a big advertisment for a site, myfandoms.com, and that the guy running it is hyping it as:

MyFandoms.com is a new site opened in Beta phase while we’re making sure we have all the tools and features fan fic writers want and need. Later in the fall, we’ll be conducting a fan fiction contest that will be judged by several prominent Hollywood producers, directors, and writers. This is your chance to get YOUR fan fiction read by people who create and make TV shows and movies! By being among the first to add their fan fiction to the site, you are guaranteeing yourself maximum exposure to every member who comes behind you.

Wow. I'm so impressed.

I thought at first that this might violate el-jay TOS because technically, you could make a case for this to be considered spamming, but on the other hand, it's not like I have to read that journal or do anything about the fact that it friended me.

But then I checked my other e-mail, my personal one (which is different to the one that el-jay comments to this journal get sent to), and I found out that I had an e-mail there from him! Which made me go rather wtf?! because the only way for him to know that address is to have somehow got it from my ff.net records or my deadjournal. And if he got it from ff.net, then why did he friend my personal journal instead of my writing journal ([livejournal.com profile] only_fiction)?

On the bright side, the e-mail at least cleared up how he'd found me:

Some people have written back to ask "how did you find me?" Basic Google searching is the answer. I just looked for people who had a healthy number of stories in popular fandoms. You're the people we want to join the myFandoms.com writers! We hope to see you soon. :-D

Also, what's a 'healthy number of stories'? I barely have fifty stories on my ff.net account and most of the good stuff is on my writing journal and not posted anywhere else. Though I suppose that I should be impressed that I popped up on Google (as did [livejournal.com profile] cairnsy apparently since she got friended too) when I really think of myself as a relatively obscure writer sans the sort of BNF status that you think would be what would send people to the top of Google lists.

*confused and waaaaaaay too sleepy to be dealing with this right now*

So, took my lovely 17-inch screen laptop (the new one called Argent) down to the living room to make sure this laptop (Azure) wouldn't distract me, and got myself to watch ep 1, 2 and halfway through 3. And so far, I like it. XD

(In case you're wondering, one of the girls on my floor lent me Season 1, so I've been meaning to watch through it for a week.)

Spoilers for eps 1-4, possibly. Mostly me squeeing. Over LEX, damnit. )

Confession time. I was planning on only watching one disc but I think that I like it enough to pop in a second one. Episodes 5-8, here I come.

More squeeing and randomness. Again, contains quite a bit of YAY LEXness. )

Alright. That's enough for now.

Final conclusion? Lex is a w00bie and made of cool. Lana makes me think of Dana from Batman Beyond. Clark is a sweetheart, Chloe's pretty cool too, and Pete is such a guy.

And did I mention that Lex is a w00bie?

Anyone want to read a screenplay of a movie that was never made?

Of course you do. Why? Because the screenplay was written by Neil Gaiman and is for the book Good Omens which if you haven't read it already, I insist you go out and buy it.

Some kind people have kindly scanned in the entire screenplay, along with Neil Gaiman's foreword and discussion of it. There are multiple posts of the scans, all neatly gathered together and ordered at [livejournal.com profile] nifeandaccurate.

And if you're not into GO? Bad, bad you. But I expect that you might like to check out the MsScribe wank, which is an absolutely enthralling tale of what's possibly one of the biggest fandom fake-outs in history. If it's true, then someone managed to fool pretty much all of the HP fandom for years. If not, then some charity is going to receive $1,000 courtesy of the girl who is posting the saga chapter by chapter. Either way, it's a good waste of four-five hours, longer if you discuss it with friends.

My recommendation? Find a friend on IM. Give them the link. Read together. Chat together. Be extremely OMGWTFBBQ?! together. Because dude, regardless of what she actually did, it's kinda freaky-cool to think that anyone is capable of pulling off a hoax like that and avoiding getting outed for so long. It's also scary, though -- was the last troll you ran into one of your friends? And I want the author to be MsScribe, just for the irony value.

Edit: Okay, and if you're not clued in about GO or HP in which case I wonder what rock you're living under there's always fake comic covers. Click. Even if you don't give a damn about comics, these actually make a really important feminist point about the sexualization and depiction of women in media, especially the All Star Batman & Robin. Warning for er, clothed man bits, which make them not necessarily worksafe but certainly rather amusing.

Stayed up until 6 in the morning, woke up at 12, have a major fever+ case of dehydration and feel very sick. *pokies Dani for it* RPed with Sian in the afternoon and am posting the logs here for a very special member of my flist :P

Also missed the deadline for the Project Testing, meaning that I'll score zero marks for that section. Have to write an anime paper by midnight tonight, and do QR exam on Monday.

The first part of the log can be found here: Of Vice and Virtue, and an Encounter in Paris.

So, I posted an Adamn/Crowley ficklet over at [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield and that converted Sian over to the wonders of that bizarre shipping, so we RPed it a little. And I'm posting the log here so that Sian can pick up on it if we decide to continue the RP later, and in case anyone on my flist feels like reading Antichrist/demon UST.

I pictured Adam as being in his late teens to his early twenties here, but I have no clue if that's what Sian intended. Not kid!Adam anyway.

Oh, and Sian got the Harry/Draco doujinshi I sent her today and Kathy decided where we'll live over the summer so YAY!
